I have a couch.  It’s one of my favorite pieces and it was purchased for a specific spot on my home.

Of course – after several years… I need to move it. I don’t want to sell it, I love it!  But it’s an unusual piece. It’s an old plum colored velvet couch with carved legs.

As chance would have it… I want a sofa instead of a chair in my master bedroom re-design.

The problem is I already have furniture and bedding in this room. I’m choosing new colors for the room walls and flooring.

I had a perfect color on the walls. The “coffee green” (an old Martha Stewart paint color) blended well with my bedding and the flooring and wood work worked well with this deep green color.

As you can see – the plum colored couch should blend well with the green color. Nature dictates all great color combinations.

But…

Other than education – How can I choose a paint color that will compliment the old bedding and the new (old) furniture?

I’ve always loved this chair combined with my russet or terra-cotta color tile

This rug combines a variety of greens – russet – plum and black.

It even has a tiny bit of slate blue.

The beige center would make a good “safe” wall color… but we are going for the russet!
