My 13 year old daughter would like to have her bedroom painted the blue/brown design. Can you please help me pick the right blue/brown combination?
I don’t want to make any mistakes (the trim in her bedroom is white) also would it be right to paint only one wall the brown? She does have a big window with built in book cases (white) on each side of the window.
Should i paint the back of the cases brown also? Please HELP!
Thank you Betsy
Brown and blue is such a beautiful color combination. I actually did some research and found a few examples of bedrooms with brown & blue paint colors.

This picture is from www.mommygoggles.com I know that it’s a nursery, but notice how they have the opposite walls painted – one brown and one blue? Nice.

The third picture is from www.apartmenttherapy.com. If you are unsure about painting a wall a dark brown, then may be you can paint all the walls blue and accessorize with brown as they did in the picture.

Blue and Chocolate Hotel Spa Collection Duvet Cover 6 piece Bedding Set-Available in King and Queen

I love the “Hotel” look !
The floor and the accent wall are about the same colorations. Both made of wood… but these could be carpet and wall colors. Very neutral. The other walls are a crisp white which sets off the bedding and window treatments.

This set is to “outdoors” for a teen girl… but the blue color combined with several browns is gorgeous.
Circo® Stripe Sheet Sets – Blue/ Brown
I would go with a chocolate brown and a grey blue color. I have a couple Benjamin Moore color charts in front of me so I will make a couple suggestions from there.
Benjamin Moore Blue Color Suggestions:
Light Blue – Summer Shower 2135-60
Medium Blue – Soft Chinchilla 2135-50
Darker Blue – Province Blue 2135-40
(these are all on the same color swatch)
Benjamin Moore Browns -
Whitall Brown – HC-69
Brown Horse – 2108-30
or a lighter brown – Davenport Tan HC-76

My favorite painting is the Georgia O’Keefe orange poppy.
I have a very large copy of this on my wall.
I have chocolate brown furniture.
My walls are a beige color and I have a beige and green area rug.
I want to paint the wall with the painting an orange color to match the painting.
But I’m scared!! Do I do it, and if I do how do I pick the color? The room is not very large and I’m afraid to overdo it. Any ideas?? Thanks
I would suggest a lighter version of the dark orange in the painting.
How about Benjamin Moore’s PEACH SORBET 2015-40

or a yellow orange like SWEET ORANGE 2017-40 ?

Creating color harmony throughout a home is a little understood process.
For instance… you may combine red, green and blue in your home by starting with crimson and maintaining the following sequence: Crimson, red, scarlet, orange, yellow, greenish yellow, green, bluish green, blue, violet, and with added red get back to crimson.
A room or a series of rooms may run to all colors and be still a harmony if the sequence or succession is gradual.
You won’t find more delightful color harmonies can be imagined than those provided by nature.
Starting with the brown of the earth and run into several shades of green, and from that touch upon yellow, and from yellow to orange, and from orange to red, and red to violet, and violet to the blue of the sky. Or you could follow the colorings and the proportion of colorings in flowers and never go astray.
In the application of color to the home nothing is more pleasing than the harmony of sequence; the coloring of all rooms must be in sympathy with contiguous rooms.
All rooms are subject to the influence of a north or a south light, or much or little light, and the colorings must be considered accordingly. The ceiling and the upper parts of a wall require more pale colors where more light is needed. On the floor, however, where the greatest light falls, a little black may be added to soften the tone.
Red and green are sharply contrasting colors; violet and yellow and blue and orange sharply contrast, and while their combinations may be used in adjoining rooms, it will be seen that in Diagram IV these contrasting tones are not in contact, but by their arrangement form analogies of contrast combinations.
